Subject:How's Everyone? :)

Hi,

5 years ago, CrazyDanes and I were just discussing casually about creating a community for La Sallians. This community started out with just 3 users(including beguiled_heart). Back then, I was taking up my masters in IT @ Gokongwei while CrazyDanes and Beguiled_Heart were about to graduate from college.

5 years later, the community now has a total of 203 users :) *claps* I've been pretty busy with work the past 3 and a half years so I have not really been able to monitor this so let me welcome all the new and recent members to this community :)

So what's new with our alma mater? :)

P.S. Crazydanes and Beguiled_heart! Nasaan na kayo?

Cheers,
Benson

Yesterday…

My photoshoot yesterday was great. Ate Pia of Marie Claire is so nice and so generous. When I arrived at Summit Studios, there were lots of food and drinks. She offered me to eat a lot of times and well… who am I to resist. After all, I didn’t eat my breakfast. The magazine’s out this April. Apparently, it was a challenge as I looked too young. Hence, we worked in angles. The photographer, Ocs, is really nice and fun to work with. He asked me for his catalogue. Yey!

I went to school after, Economics and then History of Civilizations. After classes, I was bushed and I still had to study for two quizzes, do a script for Anthropology and make a mascot design for the Lasallian Ambassadors. It’s a great thing that Piggy knows how to cheer me up. He treated me to a Japanese restaurant (today it’s Yellow Cab). At least I got some good food before stressing myself yesterday.

Please include them in your prayers…

(Supernatural) Waaahhhhh!!! John Winchester is dead. T______T

Anyway, a lot of fatalities and bad fate has been falling upon Lasallians which also includes the LAMB.  Sadly today, RJ Manzano had let go. I don’t know him but a lot of the people in my Y!M do (so I asked). Apparently he was in a coma for two days due to a stroke and today… He was an ROTC cadet and a karate-ka. Also today, Patricia (my blockmate in one of my classes today and co-Lasallian Ambassador), is confined in Makati Med.

It just scares me… how unpredictable things can get... and how as I'm typing this now, while I was posing yesterday, eating my heart out at that Japanese restaurant... people are dying…. It reminds me how time stops for no one and how I should spend every second like it’s my last.

Subject:Call for Graphic Health Warning on Cigarettes in the Philippines
Time:09:43 am
Just to help spread a friend's petition.

http://www.petitiononline.com/ghwphil/petition.html
=====
To: The Philippine Congress

We are writing to express that we, as Filipinos, are capable of showing our solidarity not only to defend the dignity of our medical institutions, but also to safeguard our right to life and health. The biggest threat to the health of Filipinos is smoking/exposure to tobacco smoke and ignorance of its deadly consequences.

Right now the textual health warnings for tobacco products cannot be understood by the Filipino people. Other countries have recognized this problem and have since used picture based warnings instead. As a result, they have seen significant improvement in the overall health of their citizens. In fact, Philippine tobacco manufacturers make these cigarettes with graphic warnings available for export to other countries but not to Filipinos.

The Filipino people have a right to know the deadly effects of smoking/exposure to cigarette smoke. The text warning right now is STILL NOT ENOUGH. Many are still smoking and dying while the young ones are curiously taking up the habit not knowing the danger, creating a vicious cycle of death that could be prevented through the use of picture based health warning that is universally understood by the people, especially the many who cannot read or write.

THEREFORE, We, the undersigned, call on you to support a legislation requiring picture based health warnings on cigarette packages to be available to Filipinos so that they understand the threat posed by tobacco consumption and exposure to tobacco smoke.

We call on your duty to implement the provisions of the WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (FCTC), a treaty the Philippines ratified in 2005 by

▪ requiring 50% or more of the principal display areas and be in the form of or include pictures or pictograms.
▪ Protecting the policies from the commercial and other vested interests of the tobacco industry.

We call on you to abide by your duty to enforce the Constitutional right to public health and install, consequently the right of every person to be informed of the health consequences, addictive nature and mortal threat posed by tobacco consumption and exposure to tobacco smoke.

Pictures can save millions of lives. Act now.

I personally prefer a nationwide ban like that of England but any anti-smoking step is good in my book.
